PSAs try to teach a group of people about a certain topic to educate them on the risks of such behavior and what have you. This PSA takes the route of statistics to convey a message to the viewer about body image issues and such. Specifically, this PSA is aiming to educate those oblivious of the body image and self esteem issue on the epidemic that is hurting the country's children and future. Additionally, this PSA hopes to shed light on this extremely dangerous behavior of self harm via dieting, anorexia, and other illnesses related to the issue. At the end of the video, a quote by Confucius, a famous philosopher, stating "Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it." trying to get those struggling to see that they are beautiful despite what they think or have been told. Although this quote may not end all body image issues in the world, it will help those who do not understand step inside to the lives of those who struggle and see why they have become so hard on themselves and have developed this idealistic body they strive to achieve. Personally, I chose this PSA because I have struggled with body image issues and appreciate that this PSA recognized that it is not just girls who struggle with this issue because boys deal with this issue just as much as girls do, so I am glad that they recognized that boys struggle too. Emotions are the way to any individuals heart, and this PSA uses the emotional tactic to connect the viewer with the lesson and effectively teach those of the suffering loved ones deal with due to smoking. This PSA addresses the issue of smoking by showing a mother taking a walk away from her son to smoke and the way that a moment away from her makes him feel, then compares that emotion to how he would feel without her at all. By connecting home with the close connection mothers have with their children, this PSA appeals to the people smoking to show them how much pain they put people through by smoking and how much damage, mentally, their smoking can cause to even the youngest of family members. Personally, I have family members who have and had smoked in their lives and by seeing this commercial it made me think how much different my life would be without their presence and that is why I felt obligated to include this PSA in my blog. Additionally, I am a mama's boy so even the thought of losing my mother sent shivers down my spine and made me want to share this PSA to all who smoke to show them that they are not only ruining their lives but others around them as well. Saving the best for last, this PSA too uses emotions to connect the viewer with the message of the PSA. Jarring and super realistic, this PSA uses an unfortunately accurate scenario of what speeding can cause to drive home the message of staying within the speed limit to reduce the harm you could cause yourself and others. Quite ironically, this PSA starts off with the father of the girl who gets run over due to speeding, talking to about how his friend could have avoided getting a speeding ticket by checking for where the cameras are on the street, as that is what the girl's father does, even though he could have been the one who ran over a child. The main lesson of this PSA is to slow down and by showing the viewer that anyone could be the person who ran over that child. That too is how the PSA tries to appeal to get people to change by showing that that could be your child getting ran over so do not even risk speeding yourself as it is not worth someone losing their life over. Their are no personal ties to this PSA but I found this specific PSA shocking and too real because stuff like this does happen and the minute I saw the crash I was frozen in shock and knew from that moment on I would never speed and that others should see this to show them the disasters effects of speeding.
